If you’re now looking for a delicious broccoli sprout smoothie recipe, I’ve got just what you need!

This broccoli sprout smoothie is packed with highly nutritious fruits and vegetables, as well as important phytochemicals such as the sulforaphane from the broccoli sprouts.

Broccoli sprouts have a bit of a spicy taste – kind of like a mix between raw broccoli and a mild radish. I don’t necessarily enjoy the taste of broccoli sprouts, so I try to mask the flavour as much as possible, which is what this recipe does quite well.

So, here’s how to make a broccoli sprout smoothie that actually tastes good!

This broccoli sprout smoothie is packed with highly nutritious fruits and vegetables, as well as important phytochemicals such as the sulforaphane from the broccoli sprouts.

You will need the following ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup broccoli sprouts
  • 1/2 cup spinach
  • juice from half a lemon
  • 1 banana
  • half an apple, or one whole small apple
  • 1/2 cup frozen pineapple (and/or mango) (+ I also like to throw in a few frozen strawberries)
  • 1 cup water or milk

These simple ingredients make for a smoothie so tasty that you’ll forget you’re drinking greens at all!

I always love adding fresh lemon juice to green smoothies because it really helps cut the green taste, but I think the real star ingredient here is the pineapple. It brings such an amazing tropical, sweet and zesty flavour. Especially with the banana and strawberries!

The fruits (apple, pineapple/mango, banana, and strawberries) are all very sweet fruits, so they easily overpower the broccoli sprouts. But if you don’t mind a slightly greener, more broccoli-sprout-y taste, you can put in less fruit.

On the other hand, if the smoothie is still tasting too green, you can always add in more apple or any of the other fruits.

I find that even the spinach helps mellow out the broccoli sprouts, somehow!

For the broccoli sprouts, you can use them fresh or frozen. If using frozen sprouts, just be sure to blend them up before they have time to thaw, in order to maximize their benefits.
